Brian M. Reiser

Authority strategist. Founder of Reiser Digital Services LLC, Kennebunk, Maine.

I help research and expertise-driven institutions become the recognized authority in their fields, to the people who matter and the AI systems that increasingly answer for them. That’s the whole practice. It’s a deliberate narrowing from where I began in search engine optimization, and the narrowing is the point.

The Through-Line: Authority

I’ve spent more than a decade in search engine optimization (SEO) and content strategy, working across a wide range of businesses and industries, from S&P 500 companies to prestigious research schools and complex B2B fields. For most of that time the surface kept changing: the algorithms, the tools, the tactics everyone argued about. But underneath, the work never changed. It has always been the same discipline: making an organization legible and credible to the system that decides what gets seen.

A decade ago that system was Google’s index. Today it’s an AI answer engine that resolves a question into a single, confident reply. The stakes are higher now. There’s no page two to hide on, no ten blue links to be one of. But the craft is continuous. Authority strategy is what that craft becomes when you take it seriously and aim it at the institutions for whom being recognized is everything.

An Unusual Path in the Field

My route here didn’t start with marketing at all. I began by studying management and finance at Binghamton University, then philosophy at Columbia University and the University of South Florida.

Philosophy is what first shaped how I approach this work, because the questions behind it are philosophical ones. What does it mean for something to be known? How does a claim become recognized as fact? How does a system decide who counts as an authority? Those aren’t new questions. They’re just being answered now by AI, at scale, about your institution. And most institutions have no idea what the machines are concluding.

Earlier in my career I also wrote on finance and investing for the Oxford Club’s Investment U. It taught me to make complex, credibility-sensitive subjects clear, which turns out to be most of the job.

The Institutions I’ve Worked With

My experience in building authority through SEO and content spans research and higher-education settings alongside demanding B2B fields including credibility-based industries like finance and the life sciences. My experience includes work with a leading school of public health at a major research university and a university-based research program at a highly regarded public university, as well as organizations across life sciences and technology. What ties them together is that in every case, credibility was the product, and the job was to make that credibility unmistakable to both people and search systems.

How I Work

You work with me directly. No account managers, no handoff to a junior team after the pitch. The engagement usually starts with an Authority Audit (how search engines and AI systems understand you today, and where the gaps are), can move into an Authority Build (the entity, structured data, and citation layer that make you legible and credible), and continues as an Authority Engine (ongoing measurement and growth).

Based in Kennebunk, Maine. Working with institutions across the United States.
